How to read this

The Crypto Fear and Greed Index is a composite indicator published daily by Alternative.me. It combines volatility, market momentum, social media sentiment, dominance, and search trend data into a single 0-to-100 number. 0 is extreme fear. 100 is extreme greed.

The useful way to read it is as a contra-indicator, not a price prediction. Historically, extreme fear readings have clustered around generational buying opportunities. Extreme greed readings have clustered around tops. The legendary Buffett line, "be fearful when others are greedy and greedy when others are fearful," is essentially this index in one sentence.

What the index does not do: tell you the bottom or the top. Markets can sit in extreme fear for weeks. They can run on extreme greed for months. The reading is one input into a decision, never the decision itself.
